Wahweap hoodoos hike

The Wahweap hike is located near Big Water, Utah just a few miles north of Page, Arizona. To hike from the trailhead to the Hoodoos is a 3 mile one way hike.

At the trailhead of the Wahweap hike.

The trail started out on a dry river bed that many people had driven on creating a road.

In a short while the trail left the dry river bed road. We decided to stay on the road as it seemed to parallel the trail.

We followed the road which followed the river bed. At times the canyon walls were huge.

Many of the rock formations were wind swept.

Note the balancing rock.

The road/trail was not well marked.

We come to black soil like crust.

It is soft and breaks up easily. It is made up of many small pebbles and soil.

We come to a fork and take the right road. It is not marked.

We hiked for 20 minutes up the right road until we decided we had maybe taken a wrong turn and went back to the left turn.

The road went through a gate into what looked like a dry lake bed.

We decided we were a long way from the Hoodoos and decided to go back after 3.1 miles.

It was a flat easy walk.

We see an optical illusion.

The rock formations were spectacular.

Joanne finds a great rest stop.

We approach the trailhead overwhelmed with the scenery.

We need to cross a not so dry riverbed to get back to Page.

Approaching the river crossing.

Crossing the river and heading back safely.
