Fall Drive San Juan Mt I

Driving from South Fork to Durango on highway 160 takes you through the south part of the San Juan Mountains.

Going north on highway 149 at South Fork takes you into the south heart of the San Juan Mountains.

Highway 149 follows the Rio Grande river.

At about 8 miles north of 160.

At about 10 miles north of 160.

The riverbanks of the Rio Grande are loaded with color.

The Aspen colors are at their peak. At about 12 miles we turn to go back to highway 160.

Soon before Pagosa Springs we come to a hike off of highway 160.

We cross a small creek nearly overgrown with vegetation.

The leaves look like gold coins on the ground.

Soon we come to another hike off of highway 160. It has a great view of the valley.
