KAGOSHIMA JAPAN

On May 17 our cruise ship stopped at Kagoshima, Japan. We were suppose to stop at Hiroshima but because of a G7 meeting there on that date we had to cancel and the substitute was Kagoshima. Above is the skyline of Kagoshima. The population is 595,000. Its climate is sub-tropical and averages 108 inches of rain each year.

VIDEO OF OUR WELCOME

Our ship was welcomed by many people from the city. They waved and yelled "Welcome".

Our welcoming band. See video.

Most cities in Japan still have electric tram cars.

Our first stop on our excursion was the Heritage Center.

The buildings were all historical showing Japanese style homes.

The landscaping was perfection without a blade of grass out of place.

A wedding was taking place at the Center.

One last style home as we leave for the highest mountain overlooking the city.

A grotto on the highest mountain.

People at the viewing point overlooking the city.

From the highest mountain we view the Volcano Sakurajima.

On the way back to the ship the volcano erupted.
