FALL DRIVES INDEPENDENCE PASS





Independence Pass is east of Aspen, Colorado. It is a very scenic drive between Aspen and Leadville. These photos were taken in 2008, 2021 and three video's in 2025 are driving up from the west side to the summit and one driving down the east side.

A short distance from Aspen the road becomes just one lane on a spectacular cliff.



All through the 30 mile drive the road is often tree lined in color.



There are numerous cliffs also lining the highway.



Pioneers tried to start a town in one of the valleys.



Their cabins have been kept up.



The same valley on the east side.

At the Continental Divide there is a bench.



There is also a lookout point.



The altitude is 12,095' at this point.



As we start downhill much of the highway is lined with Aspens.
