BELIZE PAGE

On February 4, 2025 our cruise ship stopped at the Central American country of Belize.

It has a population of 400,000 in an area of 8,900 Square miles.

A sign greets us as we step
off the ship at Belize City.

We start our visit with a boat ride 30 miles up the Belize River.

Our first animal sighting was
a Great Blue Heron.

The trees along the river were
full of Iguanas.

The largest bird in Belize is the stork. They stand over 5' and have a wingspan of 8'.

There were many crocodiles.

We stop at the Iguana Stop
for lunch.

Our lunch consist of chicken, rice
and a lettuce salad.

We then get in a bus and go to the Mayan ruins of Altun Ha.

A monument stating it was discovered in 1961.

The largest building is the Temple of the Masonry Altars.

The mounds were all burial mounds for the most important leaders.

We decide to climb the extreme
steep steps to the top.

View from the top of the steps.

We end our visit with a view from the top of the Temple of Masonry Altars.
